The 2.5 year wait is over !!!

Endhiran !!...The biggest film made in Tamil and Indian cinema and aptly directed by a guy with big dream-Shankar. I will try yet again to pen an unbiased review of the movie (some of you may have got my Sivaji review..:D)..
While most people know me as a big Rajni fan, it’s a shame that this is the first time ever I saw his movie on day 1. L….a dubious distinction….Coming to the movie, it was a jolly ride of sorts from start to end. Rajni has yet again relished the role (I feel he laughed and smiled more in Sivaji though)..he looks younger than he looked in Chandramukhi (where the make-up was terrible), speaks slightly better English than he ever did in a movie. :P, enjoys the chitti 2.0 role to the fullest. Last but not least, gave us diwali ahead of diwali. Can any other actor command so much hype (without having to do the same extent of marketing aamir khan does)? I doubt. This time, my north Indian friends are keen to watch the movie. Even Rajeev Masand and Anupama Chopra have enjoyed the movie. I am sure the movie will make more money than it spent. This is a movie kids would love too
Shankar’s brilliance and smartness as a director is reflected in the intelligent ways adapted by Vasi to crash chitti 2.0, the sequence where Ash asks chitti to get the mosquito and the scenes connected to that, the smart use of magnetic power of chitti in the slum encounter with the baddies, tapping on rajni’s enormous villain-playing skills, casting Ash to woo a bigger global audience, roping in experts in various domains like technology, science, the concept for Robo da song, exposing what the robot can and can’t do, shooting Danny’s scenes in Hindi itself though this annoys from a lip-sync point of view etc etc..Shankar is among my 4 favourite current directors and is definitely more intelligent than Mani Ratnam who in my view is very over-rated for quite sometime now. There is not a glimpse of intelligence in Raavan. The other positives are, Ash looks stunning (anyday than the raavan looks), Rahman’s music is contextually good for the movie, vairamuthu and his son have penned some real good scientific lyrics.
Flip side, Shankar has mellowed down rajni’s intro scenes (and has also changed he SUPER STAR visual on screen. L. Both in sivaji n in endhiran...There are certain things close to heart about thalaivar padam and intro song is surely one (with of course SPB singing in his majestic voice)…And how can I pardon Shankar for wasting SPB’s pudhiya manidha like he did. L….The other negative in my view is bad choreography. Rajni looks definitely younger but can’t dance to save his life and this is known to all. He speaks in the trailor on the Kilimanjaro song and the rehearsals he did for tough steps. There isn’t really any tough step (and that from me who needs a computer chip to even do something remotely close to dancing)…I liked Lawrence’s choreography in Sivaji for the adhiradi song where he gave plausible steps for rajni and it looked neat on screen. Prabhu Deva and Raju sundaram (and Shobi from their school is the other choreographer) never gave good steps for thalaivar (think of baba kichu tha song in baba etc). The best guy for Rajni was Kalyan who best leverages thalaivar’s walk at least if not dance movements. :P.
Overall, a great experience and a visual treat as one of my friends put it. Personally I liked Sivaji more but would tip my hat off for Shankar for daring to do a sci-fi movie blended with Indian flavours. As my other friend said, sci-fi with message on corruption (never boring in shankar's movies even if it's repeated often) would have been a dream come true..
It's indeed a special movie worth a watch by all film lovers..
